Dedicated to the memory of Cas

After being diagnosed with a Glioblastoma Multiforme Stage 4 brain tumour (GBM4) 54 weeks ago, I'm sorry to say that at 5:30pm today, 17th July 2017, my mum Cas Stewart gave her last breath. She was in no pain and she had myself, my wife Janette, her brother Paul and sister-in-law Anne with her, holding hands and stroking her face listening to Neil Diamond, her favourite artist, as she fell into her lasting sleep. She was only 66 years old.

We'd known since diagnosis that we didn't have long with her as the median survival rate for GBM4 is only 6 months but my mum battled away for 12½ months, enjoying her time with family and friends even though the tumour created many problems for her.

I'm so proud of my Mum being so positive and brave, courageous and inspirational after having to deal with a disease that has no cure,

(Brain tumours kill more children and young adults than any other cancer but receive less than 1.5% of the national spend on cancer research)

and I so desperately wanted her to be pain free as things progressed which, with the help of everyone at the Hospice, she was.

The Wigan and Leigh Hospice nurses & doctors were wonderful over the 25 days that my Mum has been with them and we can't thank them enough for making my mum's last weeks as comfortable as possible.

Love you Mum

My Mum is much loved, will be greatly missed and will always be forever in our hearts.
